Dr. Holly Chen, PT, DPT, PhD founded Friends Physical Therapy & Wellness to offer something rare: one-on-one care where the same expert sees you every visit, from evaluation to discharge.

With over 22 years of rehabilitation experience — including a PhD in Rehabilitation Science, 15 peer-reviewed publications, and specialized training in both pelvic floor and orthopedic therapy — Dr. Chen brings academic rigor and genuine clinical warmth to every patient.

  • Yes! Many insurance plans cover physical therapy services, but coverage can vary depending on your provider, plan, and specific benefits. Our clinic staff is happy to help you verify your benefits and provide any documentation your insurance may require.

    If your insurance isn’t listed, we’re happy to provide a superbill so you can submit a claim for possible reimbursement.

  • No — Virginia allows direct access to PT. Some plans require a referral for coverage; we'll help you check.

  • Your first session includes a comprehensive evaluation where we assess your movement, strength, flexibility, posture, and pelvic floor (if applicable) — followed by a personalized treatment plan.

  • It varies. Many patients see improvement in a few visits; others benefit from ongoing care and guided home exercise. Your therapist will discuss a realistic plan at your first session.

  • Absolutely — and many patients have both. Treatment is always customized to your individual needs. Each program is customized to your unique needs.

  • Yes. Every patient receives a written personalized home program with instructions to maintain progress between sessions.
